Friday Five: December 31, 2010

Today's Friday Five prompts deal with saving. The prompts:

  1. When dining out, do you usually save room for dessert?
  2. How do you feel about saving places in line or saving seats in theaters?
  3. What’s one thing you did to save money this past year?
  4. Besides money, what’s something you’re saving for later?
  5. In what way did you recently save the best for last?
  1. No, I rarely save room for dessert. That's because when I go in, I know that it's highly likely that I'm not going to be eating dessert. Actually, all I usually want is just one taste, so if someone else orders dessert and is willing to give me a bite, it wouldn't matter whether I had saved room or not.
  2. I'm willing to save a place in line if we entered at the same time and the other person had to leave the line for some reason. But I don't like the idea of sending one person ahead to save spaces for a large number of others. But, I'm more OK with saving places in the theater, since it may be the only way in which people are able to sit together.
  3. I have to admit that I haven't been very frugal in 2010. Since I'm beginning to think about retiring and when would be a good time to do that and how we will manage after retirement, I really should start saving and practicing living with less spending. Maybe that will be a 2011 objective with an eye to retiring in 2013 or so.
  4. Ah, those who know me would say that I'm saving books. I have laughingly said that I could be confined to my house for over a year with no way to purchase any other books (not even new electronic books) and still not run out of books to read. I am attempting to pare down the TBR stacks, but I keep acquiring books.
  5. I cannot think of any way I've saved the best for last recently. I tend to live in the right now and don't spend a lot of time wishing and hoping for something at a future time. If I want it and can afford it, I just go ahead and get it. (Yeah, I'm spoiled.)
