D is for Drain

As I was trying to think of a suitable word to focus on for this 4th day of the A-to-Z Blogging Challenge, I remembered that I had not yet seen the results of the work that had been done at our rental home. After a long time trying to figure out why our backyard was periodically flooding, and being assured that although the water was coming from a neighbor's property there was nothing that could be done to compel them to remediate the problem, we finally broke down and installed a French Drain. Now that it's in and the yard is beginning to dry out, we're able to put in some landscaping.

So the “D” words for today could be drain, or ditch, or digging (but fortunately not drowning). After dinner, we stopped by the house and my son showed off the drain and the landscaping that he was beginning to put in. There's a row of holly bushes along the fence and we're looking at replacing grass which died out. We also could pour some more concrete to extend the patio or perhaps lay some flagstones in the ell of the house.
