Sunday afternoon, May 8. It had been raining most of the day, but around 5pm I noticed that the sky was clearing. Not only was the setting sun visible, but it was illuminating a gorgeous rainbow. I've never taken a picture of a rainbow, but this was too good an opportunity to pass up.
Grabbing the camera, I quickly discovered that getting a good photograph of a rainbow is difficult. I guess I should have put the whole thing onto manual and just bracketed a whole bunch of exposures. Instead, I left it set on fully automatic. The sky and rainbow are reasonably well exposed, but the trees aren't in focus. Obviously, there's nothing for the camera to focus on in the sky & rainbow. I thought maybe it would tune itself to "infinity", but apparently that didn't happen. Next time, I'll try to remember to focus on the trees and then reframe the shot to pick up the rainbow.
